Many times I read or was told that people choose their favourites rather mindlessly and carelessly and therefore make faves practically worthless. I think otherwise; I choose mine very carefully and also value those I get equally or even more than comments (definitely more than short 1-2 word comments), because a fave means I somehow attach myself to the picture and I will want to see it again (when I go through my faves, obviously. ) I usually fave a piece when I can't bear I would never see it again, when I keep staring at it for a long time or when I keep coming back to see it. (Besides, I usually leave a comment if I decide to fave an image.)

I also like the fact it stays in somebody else's faves and works there as an advertisement - and if you think I compete for pageviews this way, you are wrong. How is it different from featuring arts in journals? Everybody is dead happy when their works are featured while faves, which mean the same, are almost spat at. And what else are DDs for? Attracting attention. Faves have all these functions together.
